Amber Meulenijzer

Amber Meulenijzer (1994, Belgium) is an artist investigating the relation between space and sound, using various means like field recording, horn speakers, various synthesizers and sometimes an old Saab 900. She uses microphones to record sound through different materials, sending it out in different spaces. Her work always seeks to connect with the context in which it is developed or displayed, interacting with architectural elements and environmental sounds or dynamics, finding the resonant frequencies of different landscapes. She researches moving sound sources in her work Saab Sculptures, a travelling sound system interacting with its surroundings, and works on different installation and performance formats. Looking for the composition in each space, she is inherently an in situ improvisor. Curiosity has led her to work with different materials, using them as sounding and sculptural elements, researching the tension between these fields. Where does sound meet material? When does the ear guide the eye? Who sings? Who listens?
Amber Meulenijzer has a background in sound and visual arts (RITCS Radio, 2016 | KASK Installation Art 2019). Her work has been shown at Struer Tracks Biennale (DK), Monheim Triennale (DE), Akouphene Festival (CH), LUFF Festival (CH), Festival Echos (FR), Fiber Festival (NL), Open Oscillator Festival (NL), Belluard Bollwerk (CH), Kopfhoerer (CH), STUK, iMAL, Oscillation Festival/Q-O2, Meakusma Festival, BRDCST Festival/AB, Listen Festival x In Vitro, Botanique, ...
