Paul Gruendorfer
Paul Gründorfer works across conceptual and process art, site-specific interventions, sound sculpture, and performance. He develops process-related systems and explores variable or unstable conditions through amplification, feedback, and plural signal streams. His work treats sound as a found object within social and environmental contexts, examining system instability, the interplay of control and reaction, and the mechanisms of hidden or emergent signals.
During his research residency at Overtoon, he will continue working on ship where he explores the perception of and reaction to sound in public spaces, secluded areas or resonant hideouts. It's a small portable speaker and dsp-realtime setup with simple materials, like found cardboard panels, that function as a speaker system and can be set up in different locations to create various listening experiences and associations, while also considering the impact of amplification levels. In addition to the auditory focus on the adaptive nature of sonic systems, it also seeks to address the question of spatial presence and explore the different qualities of exposure to unfamiliar elements.
